A university of applied learning, the Singapore Institute of Technology was established in 2009. Founded by the president of the SIT, Tab Chin Tiong, the university started with a handful of 500 students with 10 degree programs to offer. The university has grown in the last decade and now boasts over 7000 students enrolled in 42 different degree programmes. The degree programmes are grouped into 5 divisions: Infocomm Technology, Engineering, Design and Specialised Businesses, Chemical Engineering and Food Technology, and Health and Social Sciences. The university has been recently granted an endowment of $447.78 Million. The university has introduced SIT-DNA which aims to promote certain important traits among the students at the university. This aims to transform students into thinkers who will have the ability to learn, unlearn and relearn according to the requirements, making them the transformation catalyst who are grounded in the community.
Dover Drive in Dover, Singapore houses the main campus of the Singapore Institute of Technology. The university also has five other campuses which focus mainly on polytechnics. These campuses include the Nanyang Polytechnic (SIT@NYP), Ngee Yang Polytechnic (SIT@NP), Republican Polytechnic (SIT@RP) and Singapore Polytechnic (SIT@SP). Singapore Institute of Technology has a 1:41 teacher-student ratio with over 7000 students and 146 academic staff members.
