Global EI Test (GEIT) and Daniel Goleman's EQ Test are the two tests conducted by me. From the GEIT test, I found that I got the highest score 5 in social-awareness and lowest score in relationship management. My score in self-awareness is 5 and in self-management is 7 in the test. It shows that my social-awareness capabilities are excellent, which helps me to manage the company and also take care of the needs and demands of other people. My low score in relationship management shows that I am not at all competent in managing relationships. My score in self-awareness demonstrates that I am not much good at controlling my emotions. My self-management presents that I have to improve my management capabilities. My test results from the EQ Test demonstrates that I have got 59, which means my level of emotional intelligence is great, and I am an emotionally intelligent person. This shows that I have great relations with other people and approach me for advice.
The same two tests have been done by my two friends for determining my capabilities and behavior. My first friend conducted the same two tests, and it showed that I had got 9 in self-awareness, 5 in social awareness, 4 in self-management and 1 in relationship management. My first friend analyzed that I possess great self-awareness capabilities but have to work on my social knowledge and management skills and particularly on my relationship management capabilities. I got 49 in Goleman's Test that shows that my level of emotional intelligence is good.
My second friend also conducted the same two tests, and it showed that I had got 1 in self-awareness, 5 in social awareness, 6 in self-management and 9 in relationship management. My second friend found that I have great relationship management skills but have to work on my social awareness and management skills and particularly on my self-awareness capabilities. The Goleman's Test' results showed that I had got 45 that demonstrates that my level of emotional intelligence is good.
Johari Window is an easy and useful tool to illustrate and improve self-awareness as well as mutual understanding among the members of the team. It could also be utilized for assessing and improving the relationship of one individual with other individuals. The model has four parts, open, blind spot, hidden as well as unknown to all. According to the open quadrant of Johari Window Model, I have emotional awareness and cannot control my emotions. As per the blind quadrant, my friends' view on self-awareness is completely different from my perspective. According to the hidden quadrant, I have great social awareness skills more than the other capabilities. As per the unknown quadrant, my friends' are not aware of my relationship management skills.
Strength and Weaknesses
From the results of the Global EI Test, I have recognized some of my strengths and weaknesses. My first strengths which I have identified is that I have the capability to fulfill the needs and demands of clients that helps me to become successful in my workplace. Another strength is that I have the skill in understanding others and take interests in addressing their concerns that demonstrate my great level of empathy. The self-management includes five competencies, but transparency and self-control are the crucial strengths (Baczy?ska and Thornton III, 2017). I can maintain levels of integrity and honesty that helps me to remain flexible in changing circumstances. Besides my strengths, I also possess some weaknesses in self-management as well as relationship management. I have less capability to manage conflicts among my employees and cannot manage them and motivate them to finish their tasks (Carson, Carson and Birkenmeier, 2016). The vital weakness is low confidence that leads to a low sense of self-worthiness in the person. So, these are the areas of my weaknesses which I need to improve.
From the results of EQ Test, I have found that I have to concentrate on the emotional intelligence essay skills that will help me my capability to access my emotion to promoting emotional development. I need to improve my self-awareness skills for understanding my feelings and acquire confidence in carrying out the tasks. Self-awareness skills will help me to become conscious of or to identify my behavior, emotion, motivation, belief and other factors like my strengths and weaknesses, which will allow me to recognize and understand myself as an individual entity. I have to enhance my self-understanding as well as self-assessments skills to improving my emotional intelligence essay skills. The leadership skills need to be enhanced to managing and motivating the employees in the company (van der Linden et al., 2017. High level of emotional intelligence essay maintains positive communication among the friends as well as family (Miners, Côté and Lievens, 2018).
Need for Competencies for Developing and Functioning Well as a Global Citizen
For functioning in a better way as a global citizen, I will consider to develop my skills like teamwork, intercultural communication, adaptability, self-awareness, conflict management and empathy. The theory of emotional intelligence by Daniel Goleman can help to improve the skills (Mayer, Caruso and Salovey, 2016). The teamwork skills could be improved when all the team members are brought together and motivated to work and perform in better ways in the workplace for the same targets (Joseph et al., 2015). I could also improve my teamwork skills by recognizing the strengths as well as weaknesses of all the members of my team for preventing a lack of communication and conflicts.
To become a global citizen, it is necessary to remain committed and engaged in long-term objectives and for this, intercultural communication skills are required (Miao et al., 2018). I will improve my intercultural communication skills by sharing information and communicating with my coworkers from diverse backgrounds, cultures, social groups and settings. Conflict management skills are utilized for peacefully resolving conflicts among the two parties where both the parties become satisfied with the consequences (Gunkel, Schlaegel and Taras, 2016). I will improve my conflict management skills by listening and discussing the matter actively and resolving the conflicts.
Adaptability skills are the capabilities of the individuals to change their approach and actions to conduct things for adapting to a new circumstance (Rezvani et al., 2016). I will improve my adaptability skills by learning a complete range of soft skills, navigate the changes in better ways and becoming adaptable. Self-awareness skills are the capabilities of the individuals to be conscious of or to identify their behaviors, emotions, motivations, beliefs and other factors like strengths and weaknesses, which allows them to recognize and understand themselves as an individual entity (Lee and Chelladurai, 2018). I will improve my self-awareness skills by identifying my strengths and coping with my weaknesses and also by asking for feedback from others.
Empathy skills are the skills to correctly place oneself in other's place for understanding the views, feelings and situations of other persons from their viewpoint and to become capable to communicate that understanding back to the other individual (Miao, Humphrey and Qian, 2017). I will improve my empathy skills by experiencing the differences among the individuals, learning to recognize my feelings and regularly asking other people for their beliefs and opinions about a circumstance.
For example, I used to work in a culturally diverse global firm, where employees from a diverse culture used to work. I was the manager of that firm and communication was the major issue in my workplace. As the firm was a culturally diverse company, clients used to come to various cultural background. One such client came to my workplace for inquiring about a product. I tried to provide her as much information I can give about the product, but I was not able to satisfy her and make her understand regarding the product due to poor intercultural communication skills. I realized that I have to improve intercultural communication skills for proper flow of communication with the employees and clients.
Conclusion
The emotional intelligence essay analyzed the theory of Daniel Goleman for testing the emotional intelligence and reflecting on the results of the test. It also utilized the Johari Window model for self-awareness and critically analyzed own findings as well as the associates for reflecting on oneself. For functioning in a better way as a global citizen, I will consider to develop my skills like teamwork, intercultural communication, adaptability, self-awareness, conflict management and empathy. I have to enhance my self-understanding as well as self-assessments skills to improving my emotional intelligence essay skills.
