Project management assignment: Statement of Work for Cruise Terminal
Question
Task: You are required to prepare a Statement of Work (SOW) based on your tender for the contract to build the new Sydney Cruise Terminal in this project management assignment.
Answer
Introduction
The Statement of Work has been prepared that takes into account all aspects of the tasks involved in completing the construction of the Cruise Terminal. At the beginning of construction, it is essential to check the site where the terminal is to be constructed. The site must be durable enough to withstand the heavy weight after the terminal is constructed. Also, these must be determined after conducting feasibility test for the site. After checking the site, ordering the raw materials and appointing the workers, the next task is to start the construction of the terminal. While the construction is being done, it is essential to keep a check on all aspects of the construction and a separate team must be appointed for it.The different parties involved are the contractor, the workers, the engineers, the supervisors and the project management team. Also, the project manager, leader and officers are present.
The objectives of the project are as follows-
- To complete the inspection of site within the specified time.
- To acquire necessary materials for the construction on time.
- To appoint workers for constructing the terminal on time.
- To complete the construction of the terminal within the specified time period.
- To check the durability and strength of the constructed terminal.
- To obtain the feasibility certificate from the concerned authorities.
ScopeofWork
- Inspecting the site where the cruise terminal will be constructed- At the beginning of construction, it is essential to check the site where the terminal is to be constructed. The site must be durable enough to withstand the heavy weight after the terminal is constructed. Also, these must be determined after conducting feasibility test for the site. This must be done efficiently and systematically(Bu et al, 2020).
- Acquisition of necessary materials for construction- After conducting feasibility tests for the site, it is essential to place order for the materials required at the time of construction after conducting thorough study of the material requirement. The material to be used must be of good quality and must ensure higher durability of the Cruise terminal to be constructed. This must be done efficiently and systematically.
- Appointing workers for construction of the cruise terminal- After checking the site and ordering the raw materials, it is necessary to appoint workers who will be constructing the terminal. The team of workers must be efficient, productive and professional. This must be done efficiently and systematically(Cheng, Gong and Li, 2020).
- Construction of the terminal-After checking the site, ordering the raw materials and appointing the workers, the next task is to start the construction of the terminal. While the construction is being done, it is essential to keep a check on all aspects of the construction and a separate team must be appointed for it.This must be done efficiently and systematically.
- Checking the strength, durability and other aspects of the terminal after its construction-After the terminal is constructed, several durability checks, tests related to external and internal checks etc., must be conducted. This must be done efficiently and systematically(Cheng, Gong and Li, 2020).
- Obtaining the feasibility certificate- After all the tests have been conducted, it is essential to obtain a feasibility certificate from the concerned authorities. This must be done efficiently and systematically(Cheng, Gong and Li, 2020).
Location
The location of the terminal should be such that it is easily assessable by the members of the cruise as well as the passengers. It should also be closely located to all the amenities. Also, the site where the terminal will be constructed must be a feasible one and must be finalized after conducting a feasibility test. The location of construction of terminal is the Port Botany, so appropriate location tests must be conducted(Cheng, Gong and Li, 2020).
Maintasks
The main tasks as identified in the scope of work can be broken down as follows-

- Goals- The goal is to ensure that all the activities are completed within the scheduled time frame. Ensuring this will help in early or timely completion of the construction. The goal is to ensure that the terminal constructed is of good quality and it passes all the durability tests that are to be conducted.
- Kicking ofperiod- The kicking period is planned to be one year after which the constructing will be completed with a more rapid speed and more efficiency.A superior quality and efficient cruise terminal will be delivered. It will be delivered within the specified time limit of 31st December, 2021. The completion of all the tasks within the specified time limit and as per the specified standards will be considered as milestones and achievements.
Standards
The performance will be measured on the basis of certain predefined standards. These standards are as follows-
- Standards relating to timely inspection
- Standards relating to regular monitoring(Wang, 2019).
- Standards relating to the completion time of ach activity
- Standards relating to the quality of materials used
- Standards relating to the quality of each activity that has been conducted
- Standards relating to performance of the workers and engineers
- Standards relating to the usage of materials(Ye et al, 2019).
All these standards are fixed as per the previous construction experiences. The performance will be measured by experts who will be entrusted the task of measuring the current performance using several tools and equipment and they will then compare the actual performance with the standards set to find the deficiencies, if any. Then the corrective measures will be taken.
