Healthcare Assignment: A Self-Assessment Of Handbook Pubh641
Question
Assessment task: Written task which will enable students to apply their knowledge by writing personal reflections of new concepts learned, how these relates to the scientific literature and how their learnings will extend their practice.
Answer
Introduction: Every healthcare practitioner requires evaluating their self-characteristics, as this is the most beneficial way of understanding the strong and weak points integrated into their personal traits, behaviours, and competence level. From the past few years, it is considered as a process of improving self-awareness, as it becomes necessary to perform self-reflection, as it can help in identifying the uncovered skills, assessing their significance in the area of profession, and evaluating the way of adopting the necessary skills. Furthermore, in various cases, the learners often reflect about their learnt elements, obtained from a specific course unit, which is the main concern of the current assignment. The healthcare assignment focuses on a reflective piece of paper by assessing the handbook, named PUBH641- Humanitarian Assistance and Health and its significance in the profession of healthcare practitioners.
Discussion: The handbook named PUBH641- Humanitarian Assistance and Health includes range of evidential guidance about humanitarian assistance and healthcare aspects, as the former one remains closely associated with the global health measurement style. As being a public healthcare practitioner, I can state that this handbook is a well-designed and well-framed for understanding the causative relationship between the health and humanitarian subjective topics. During our academic session, I have learnt this subjective topic, named as the Humanitarian Health Action designed by WHO, from which I have understood the basic concepts of humanity and health. I have identified that there are several relationship between public health and the various conceptions of humanitarian assistance, such as humanitarian disaster, humanitarian actors, humanitarian coordination, and so on. However, I did not learn elaborately about their theoretical and practical relationship. From the current course handbook, I have learnt different relational areas related with humanitarian assistance and health, such as the way of protecting life, respecting human dignity, reducing the prevalence of adversity suffering, and so on (Public Health in Humanitarian Crises, 2019).
Apart from this in this healthcare assignment, I have learnt a range of humanitarian theories, definitions, conceptions, models, and principles from the guidebook course material. In the previous knowledge, I did not have any idea about the history of humanitarian assistance , which has direct relationship in shaping the modern healthcare structure. However, during the course module, I have obtained knowledge about different events previously occurred as a part of humanitarian assistance. Understanding of the previously occurred events has helped me in assessing the significance of different initiatives taken at the modern age. For example, after learning the handbook materials, I have understood the importance and process of WHO facilitative health facility rehabilitation, through which more than 3 million people are subjected to receive proficient accessibility to the care service provisions (Humanitarian Health Action, 2019). Apart from this, I think that another benefit of learning this handbook is learners can easily interpret the aspects of global architecture embedded in the concepts of humanitarian assistance.
The global architecture of humanitarian assistance reflects about the international relief system, along with highlighting different roles and duties of humanitarian actors. Therefore by refering to this reflection practice in healthcare, it can be stated that I have also learnt about the roles of different humanitarian actors, who play the significant responsibilities in the healthcare initiatives. From the viewpoint of Blanchet (2018), humanitarian actors have sufficient roles in case of managing humanitarian crises, such as absence of water management, sanitation practices, adequate nutritional management, and disease management process. Therefore, it can be stated that this handbook is effective in supporting the modern frameworks designed by the scholar researchers, as the handbook contains range of evidence, in which the roles of humanitarian actors are specified for reforming the traditional healthcare provisions. I have also understood the application of different international humanitarian law, and can align them with the Australian healthcare legislations as well as health reformation policies.
Through comparing the handbook contents with different previous articles, I can state that this handbook retains effective and efficient explanations about the dimensions of health, having direct connection with the determinants of humanitarian assistance. Based on this knowledge from the reflection practice in healthcare, I think the healthcare practitioners can understand the required area of healthcare practices, with which the humanitarian assistance can be proficiently linked. Apart from this, I have also understood the prevalence of different health risks, especially during any types of humanitarian emergency. For example, Noguchi et al. (2016) mentioned that humanitarian assistance could work effectively in case of any health-related adversities, such as presence of nosocomial infection among the community members, presence of frequent accidents among care staffs, and so on. Apart from this, I think that through using the knowledge of humanitarian assistance, the care staffs can develop effective strategies for preventing and managing the health-related adversities or acute health risks.
After understanding the approachable connection between the health factors and humanitarian assistance, I think that the care staffs would also obtain knowledge about distinctive challenges integrated in the conceptions of humanitarian assistance, especially during the relief operation planning, assessment requirements, risk reduction, and disaster management. Most of the public healthcare practitioners, including me, did not have much idea about the strategies required for managing such crises related with humanitarian assistance. Therefore, the handbook content supports the truth revealed by Mirza (2017) that the long-term health management strategies become supportive in dealing with such adversities. I have learnt that efficient training to the humanitarian workforce about the adverse conditions and its management planning would help in eliminating the possibilities of risks. Additional to this, I have assessed that the health and humanitarian assistance supports implementation of long-term strategies with the existing healthcare practices, for meeting the diversified health needs of the global service users.
Conclusion
Therefore, based on the entire evaluation in this healthcare assignment, it can be stated that the handbook named PUBH641- Humanitarian Assistance and Health contains sufficient, effective, and adequate contents about the relationship of these two variables. However, as per my understanding in this healthcare assignment, it is not sufficient to follow only one handbook for improving the practical health assisting capacities, as a specific book could not cover up all the relevant elements of the subjective matter. Thus,it is inferred in this healthcare assignment that the public health practitioners need to refer some other relevant documentary materials for better understanding about the relation between Humanitarian assistance and Health.
