Affect in the criminal justice system
This criminal justice assignment explores debates relating to the legalization of marijuana in the USA. It has been observed that if marijuana is legalized in states then it will dramatically increase the crime rate and thus it will lead to a very complex situation for the criminal justice system. As several researchers have found that marijuana causes more harm to society rather than the user who consume alcohol and tobacco. With the due effect of marijuana it is hampering the youth of the society and thus if it is legalized then it will be dangerous for the future as most of the young people have been found to be the potential consumer of marijuana. As per research performed during the preparation of this criminal justice assignment, in countries like the USA where marijuana drug has been legalized, there is no decrease in the rate of crime so it can be stated that if marijuana is legalized then it is not only affecting the people but also affecting the society as a whole. As per Evans (2019), the use of this drug has been increasing more among children less than 17 years of age and it is rising at a faster rate than the national average and has been arrested a lot. Under the effects of marijuana, the crime rate has increased as cases of burglaries and violence are increasing at a tremendous rate. Offences related to driving and smoking in public places has been increasing a lot. Through different surveys, it has been observed that in Colorado marijuana-related traffic deaths have been increased by 48% in three years and thus created complexity for the criminal justice system (Dills et al., 2021). This criminal justice assignment also identified that the legalization of drugs will not reduce the rate of the criminal justice system as the black market for the drugs will increase. In the past, there have been various experiments that have been done for the decriminalization of drugs but all have failed drastically. In order to reduce the criminal offence under drugs should be changed by changing the attitudes of the people.

At the time of the robbery if both the suspects do not have consumed drugs then they would not have desperately done the robbery. As under the influence of marijuana drugs, people lose their decision making power as it affects the body as well as the brain. Since the robbers have consumed marijuana it has affected their mental health and has left them doing illegal activities. If the robbers have not taken the drugs then the scenario would be different or they may get out of the situation after the robbery without being caught. Under the influence of marijuana, their motor skills may not have functioned properly which is another reason for them being caught (Brands et al., 2019). As per the reported reviewed during this criminal justice assignment, after the consumption of the drug people naturally do not have an idea about what they are doing or what they should do. These two robbers were unaware of the crime which they were doing under the influence. If they have a minimum idea about their deed then they would not be caught by the police.
