Once a man passed by a herd of elephants when a bizarre sight stopped him in his tracks. A small rope tied up the front leg of all elephants. It was so easy for them to break free, and yet, they weren’t even trying to do so. Astonished, the man turned to inquire from the trainer of the herd about this.

How do you stop such magnificent creatures with a small piece of rope?
The trainer told him the trick. When these elephants were young, he used the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it was enough to keep them. As they grew up, they started to believe they cannot break away. They assume the rope can still hold them, so they don’t try to break free.

A largely driven lesson from this story is how most people spend their lives hanging onto expectations of failure, only because they lost once. While I think there is more to this story. Why does a person fall into the assumption in the first place? Do they lack enlightenment? Or suffer from low confidence?
